Story Board: First look at my film layout

This is the draft story board for my documentary, created from a variety of resources and research including a brainstorming session on documentary sequencing with a small focus group. I have identified the BBC 3 channel to broadcast my film due to it best representing the demographic my documentary is aimed at - having a younger target audience because it now is an online based broadcaster not on standard television.

In preparation for the storyboard, I sketched out a rough order of interview questions and based these around the story board frames on paper and how we would then sequence them together frame by frame with diegetic and diegetic narration and music. I will be using non-diegetic narration from Saud, answering these questions and telling us about himself with the different clips with lowered volume roll instead of the original interview clip.

I have started with the logo of BBC 3 being faded in from black and then being faded out to black, followed by a close up of Saud's face due to him being the main subject, and i believe bringing him in as soon as possible will reduce time and increase the whole efficiency of the documentary. He will be talking about himself in this shot and this audio will carry on over the top of the over the shoulder tracking clips of Saud through the schools corridor and up to his bedroom in St Bedes boarding house. The music that had began half way through the BBC 3 logo will carry on until the central interview where another piece of music will be introduced. During the central interview there will be a few different clips of Saud participating in his curricular and non curricular activities such as his subjects for school and the football academy he is involved with. Then there will be a talk through on how he prays and fits it around his school curriculum, and also how he deals with the christian parts of his day-to-day life of being a student at Ellesmere Collage. To then follow that will be a short sequence of cut scenes of him preparing some cultural dishes and beverages for me and him to enjoy before we sit, eat and drink whilst havinng a conversation about other burning questions that will interest the audience and help them understand more about Saud and his religion whilst watching the documentary.

My next steps for planning is creating a realistic story board by using Saud to have a run through the filming due to this being his first time in front of any camera and doing any sort of acting or interviewing. This will allow him to get comfortable with and in front of the camera and also the way the documentary will be set out.
